3 Marbles

Jan R. McDonald

In 1999, a terrified three-year-old hides and listens while his neighbors are being murdered. Soon after, the young boy escapes from Chilapa, Mexico with his parents under the wooden bed of an old truck. Arriving illegally in El Paso that night, his father gives Alex three marbles saying that they are very important and that someday he would understand why. That same night, his father disappears.

At age five, Alex doesn’t yet understand his environment. At age six, his mother dies, and he is left on his own. At age seven, Alex learns how to hide from the older street boys who beat him for sport and at age nine, Alex stops hiding.

Julia lives with a group of orphaned kids on the streets of El Paso. She is curious about Alex because he’s a loner and acts different than the other kids she knows. Julia is in the basement the day Brian, Randy, and Eric corner the smaller boy and decide to give him a beating. After witnessing what Alex does to the older boys, Julia becomes afraid of him and vows keeps her distance. Now, three years later, Julia again meets up with Alex. Although they have had little interaction over the years, they both realize that some type of bond exists between them, even if they don’t understand what it is.

This is the story of a Hispanic boy and girl; forgotten children growing up together in a world with no welcome mat. Preyed upon by drug dealers, immigration agents and their own peers, Alex and Julia find a way to survive and finally leave the streets of old El Paso.

The Biblical Role of Pastor: Correcting the Error of Our Waysย

Rev. LeRoy Thompson Ph.D.

I love the body of Christ. I also see a significant need for us to get on track with the clear marching orders that Jesus gave us. There is no doubt that the vast majority of pastors currently leading American independent charismatic congregations are people above reproach. But we have all inherited a structure and an entrenched culture that, in many ways, may be undermining our ability to be that spotless and wrinkle-free bride that Jesus is returning for.

The message this book offers may not a popular one. It goes against an over 1,500-year orientation towards a much more hierarchical structure than it seems the scriptures promote, and that the early church embraced. Whatever your reaction, I hope you hear my heart. A heart that is hopefully inclined towards the kingdom in every way that it can be. A heart that wants to see every member of the body of Christ step into the fulness of their calling. A heart that yearns for the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace among all of us who call on the Name.

This book is dedicated to Global Truth Ministries. Each of you has, in your own unique way, contributed to this book. More importantly, each of you has contributed to the joy that both Pastor Rita and I have experienced in leading this congregation. And most importantly, each of you has loved us simply as brothers and sisters in the Lord. You make it so easy for us to be who we really are. And that is something that too many pastors find difficult to do.

LeRoy received his Doctor of Divinity from Masterโ€™s International School of Divinity and his Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Trinity Theological Seminary. Timothy Aberle was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the age of eight, his family migrated to Dana Point, California. Growing up with two brothers, he learned the importance of friendship and loyalty. Regularly attending Saint Edwards Catholic Church with his family, he developed a strong interest in religion and decided to research as many different religions as possible throughout his years.

Having an eccentric imagination, he drew inspiration through different genres of music and adventurous movies. Growing up on the beaches of Strands and Salt Creek, he grew a deep respect and love for the ocean. His love for the ocean fueled his imagination and daydreaming about the unknown became normal. While others found surfing and boogie boarding to be great pastimes, Timothy often wrote short stories and songs in a journal and spent much of his time at the local library reading Stephen King books. It wasn’t till he attended Dana Hills High School that Timothy enrolled himself in a bible literature class in search of further educating himself on religion. At this time, he penned a short story called Cain’s Fury as a project for class and received high praise for its creativity.

A big turning point in Timothy’s life was when his mother, Donna, fell ill to a rare deadly disease called scleroderma. His mother stricken with grief, desperately turned to reading inspirational books about Angels to help cope with the stress of being sick. Through chemotherapy and heart wrenching times, Timothy witnessed the courage of both his mother and father. On October 3rd, 1999 tragedy fell over Timothy’s household when his beloved mother, Donna, passed away.

Moving back to Las Vegas to start over, Timothy fell in love with a young lady with a love for books. After sharing his short story, Cain’s Fury, with the young lady who he would soon marry, she encouraged him to allow his imagination to go to work and he began writing his debut novel. Using Cain’s Fury as the template, Chronicles of Kane was born.

Timothy resides in Las Vegas with his wife and two children, Dean and Sam. He works for a luxury home builder as a service technician and remains hard at work on Legacy of Kane, the next volume in the Kane Trilogy.

The Lie Is Not Your Friend: The Lie Lies

The Lie Is Not Your Friend
The Lie Lies

My first thought would customarily find me stunned to witness myself with the audacity to think that I have anything so worthwhile to say as to be worthy of your attention and to be as adamant about it as to put it in writing and offer it to you. However, my first thought is now to reconsider my first thought.

It is by my turning attention to the fact that the human mind is vast and that it spans all space and time that I know that it is the gift, prevue, and dispensation of the human being to be able to tap into this source of all knowledge and power and that I can relax and speak as I am directed to speak.

As a writer, I have come to believe that the things I write actually write themselves, using my hands to do so. It seems that I am informed what to write and how to write it by some source other than my conscious mind. I attribute the aforementioned to the universal mind which is evidenced by the universe.

Marcell Smith is the author of METHAMORPH Life In Poetic Meter.

Ingram’s Transformation of the Publishing World

U.S. Book Show by Publishers Weekly
U.S. Book Show by Publishers Weekly

If youโ€™ve never heard the name John Ingram, you will be surprised to learn that his family has been instrumental in transforming the publishing industry. In โ€œA Conversation with John Ingramโ€ at Publishers Weeklyโ€™s U. S. Book Show, you learn that Ingram played an important role during the recent pandemic in keeping books available while supply chains were disrupted. Years ago, Ingram Books started Lightning Source, a digital printer and wholesaler, which was instrumental in transforming the world of publishing into print on demand or POD. What that means is that books are printed and distributed as needed rather than sitting in a warehouse waiting for orders. Now this concept was totally transformational in the publishing business, where traditional publishers, as they still do, print thousands of books at a time, store them in a warehouse, and send them to bookstores when orders are received. Of course, the pandemic changed all of that. As John Ingram would say, Lightning Sourceโ€™s motto is, or rather became, โ€œJust in time, just in case.โ€

In June of 2020, 50% of the books on the New York Times bestseller list were provided, either printed and/or distributed, by Ingramโ€™s Lightning Source. While that percentage will change as we return to โ€œnormal,โ€ you cannot help but wonder if this lesson will not be lost by the industry as a whole. Would you want to risk printing of your content and your ability to distribute that content without the backup Ingram Content Group offers publishers?

So, what led to Ingramโ€™s success. John Ingram summed up his business philosophy like this: โ€œI want to do well by helping others do well.โ€

If you want to learn more about this success story, buy the book. You wonโ€™t regret it.
