Herb Stepherson

Herb Stepherson was born in Jonesboro, Georgia. He is the middle child of three boys. He is thirty-one years old and spent his youth like most young boys in central Georgia, riding bikes and playing sportsโ€”baseball in particular.

Since 2002, he has been involved in the fight for his life. He has been battling the nightmares of addiction for the past fourteen years. His first drug use was at fifteen, which was alcohol and from there quickly progressed to prescription pain medication and ultimately cocaine and heroin.

Heroin and cocaine took him to the absolute edges of humanity. He ended up homeless, eating food out of dumpsters, and strung out in some of the roughest neighborhoods in Chicago, in the dead of winter. The winter months are brutal in the Midwest. Herb slept in abandon buildings, airport terminals, and under bridges clinging to two basic needs: more heroin and to be numbed from the wreckage that this drug was creating in his life. All the while trying his best to keep hope alive that maybe one day he would finally be able to conquer this demon of addiction and recover.

Today, Herb celebrates life as a young man in recovery! He is an intervention coordinator, a budding young writer, a loving and active father to his five-year-old son, Lucas, and speaks on behalf of numerous agencies in his community hoping to shed some light on the true battles with heroin addiction.

Improving service may be included on many businesses list of goals, but taking service to a level where โ€œcustomers for lifeโ€ are created requires dedication and a commitment to excellence that is often sought but rarely achieved. CREATING GUESTS for Life focuses on experiences from the hospitality industry. However, the principles within this book are relevant and easily incorporated into the business plan or training program of any business in any industry interested in improving service.

The Lie Is Not Your Friend The Lie Lies

As a writer, I have come to believe that the things I write actually write

themselves, using my hands to do so. It seems that I am informed what to

write and how to write it by some source other than my conscious mind. I

attribute the aforementioned to the universal mind which is evidenced by

the universe.

Marcell Smith is the author of METHAMORPH Life In Poetic Meter.

Dillard Ross: The Ukrainian Filesย

Jan R. McDonald

Sukelov ignored the small figure on the ground, knowing that the rifleโ€™s fire would do no damage but he stopped smiling when he saw the vapor trail from the M-72 as it launched its rocket.

Forty years later, Dillard Ross looked out of the airlinerโ€™s small window. The reflection showed an old man staring back at him, and he wondered why he couldnโ€™t see himself. With blue eyes and silver hair, the tanned face looked back at him and seemed to say,ย Why are you doing this?

Suddenly called back into service and put on a plane to the Ukraine, Chief Warrant Officer Dillard Ross (Ret.) had to wonder how good this decision really was.

Jan R. McDonald has over the past thirty years founded and managed several high-tech companies operating in the newspaper publishing industry. He has written dozens of articles for both print and Internet-based publications, and he has traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, the U.S. and Mexico. He has written several fiction novels, a non-fiction short story, and several childrenโ€™s books. He is now retired and lives with his wife in Florida.

The China Connection: A Novelย

Timothy Trainer

Itโ€™s a year after Hong Kongโ€™s reversion to China. Aaron and Kellieโ€™s dual purpose Hong Kong trip for business and pleasure descends into chaos when Kellie fails to deliver the blueprint Chinese entrepreneurs seek in hopes of greater riches in the U.S. market. After a day-long meeting, she awakes the next morning across the border in southern China without her travel documents. Aaron, while waiting for Kellieโ€™s return, is attacked in his hotel room. He panics.

Helpless, Aaron enlists the aid of Roger, a retired Customs attachรฉ in Hong Kong. Roger questions the nature of the contents of millions of containers leaving Hong Kong and wonders how he can profit from it. Aaron and Roger cobble together a group of people to rescue Kellie from across the border. This small group of government and non-government people engage in questionable tactics to find Kellie.

Can the group come together to save Kellie or will their personal ambitions prevail?

Two Faces of the World: The Seeds of War

Dilobar Ortiqova

When King Arawn of Rhodareen was betrayed by his youngest son, who claimed his right for the throne, the main ally of the king, the lord of mystical creatures named centenarians, declared war on all human beings. The war started between two kingdoms engulfed almost the entire world and could destroy the very life itself.

The main characters of the book are five people with different backgrounds and status who lived during the period of great recession and unrests, when people suffered because of wars, famine, religious and political crisis, witch-hunting, and many other troubles. In different circumstances, their paths converge, making them either friends or enemies. All in all, while fighting for their own survival, these characters are unaware that their actions may have significant influence on the outcome of the war.

The main story of the novel occurs in the years of 1644-1645. The major events in it happen on the territory of the Ottomansโ€™ Empire, in France, on Crete, and two fictional kingdoms, Rhodareen and Alassoud.

Born into a family of writers, Dilobar Ortiqova has a passion for literature from the early ages. Her previous works mostly included poems and short stories. Living in different countries, starting from Central Asia to Japan, Singapore, and USA, they ultimately shaped who she is now and how she perceives the world. Exposure to different culturesโ€™ languages, cuisines, and traditions revealed an unique and remarkable style of life for the author. Currently, Dilobar lives in America with her family.

Gramma Tell the Story

Maida McQuinn-Sugrue

Maidaโ€™s memoir is a response to her grandchildโ€™s request โ€“

โ€œGramma, tell the story of how you came to America.โ€

Her story looks back at her early life:

growing up on a farm in Kerry, going to school,

and learning the fiddle from the famous Irish fiddle player,

Pรกdraig Oโ€™Keeffe.

Then she describes her journey to the United States

at the tender age of nineteen

and tells the story of her life there.

By turns funny, moving and uplifting,

it will be cherished by her whole family.

I dedicate this book to my grandchildren and their children. From my own experience I know it is important for families to know their ancestry. And since Im the first of my family to come to the United States to live, I hope that all who read my story will find it both pleasant and beneficial. You will find out where I came from and why Iโ€™ve been answering that question over and over down through the years.

And since it seemed important enough to be asked,

I think it is equally important to write it down.
