The Biblical Role of Pastor: Correcting the Error of Our Ways

Rev. LeRoy Thompson Ph.D.

I love the body of Christ. I also see a significant need for us to get on track with the clear marching orders that Jesus gave us. There is no doubt that the vast majority of pastors currently leading American independent charismatic congregations are people above reproach. But we have all inherited a structure and an entrenched culture that, in many ways, may be undermining our ability to be that spotless and wrinkle-free bride that Jesus is returning for.

The message this book offers may not a popular one. It goes against an over 1,500-year orientation towards a much more hierarchical structure than it seems the scriptures promote, and that the early church embraced. Whatever your reaction, I hope you hear my heart. A heart that is hopefully inclined towards the kingdom in every way that it can be. A heart that wants to see every member of the body of Christ step into the fulness of their calling. A heart that yearns for the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace among all of us who call on the Name.

This book is dedicated to Global Truth Ministries. Each of you has, in your own unique way, contributed to this book. More importantly, each of you has contributed to the joy that both Pastor Rita and I have experienced in leading this congregation. And most importantly, each of you has loved us simply as brothers and sisters in the Lord. You make it so easy for us to be who we really are. And that is something that too many pastors find difficult to do.

LeRoy Thompson is the Senior Pastor of Global Truth Ministries. He is a gifted Bible teacher with a passion for revealing the truth of the innocence that Jesus provided to us. LeRoy received his Doctor of Divinity from Master’s International School of Divinity and his Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from Trinity Theological Seminary.
