Donna Myer

Donna Myer was born and raised in the small town of Seneca, Illinois, along the Illinois River. She is a part of the now-diminishing baby-boomer generation, but as such, is grateful to have been part of a culture where mothers stayed home and raised their children, while the fathers were able to support their families with one paycheck. She attributes her love of learning, writing, and the arts to her parents of Italian, German, English, and French descent. While researching family ancestry, she discovered that Ann Dudley, the first female poet to be published in the United States, is among her direct ancestors. Now retired Donna has more time to write, paint, and draw which are her passions.

The New Neighbor A Change of Heart

On the edge of the woods that led to the great open field sat a small brown house. It was a nice enough place for any woodland creature to visit, but what made it special was the pergola. Ah, yes, the pergola! It was covered in lush, green vines and proved to be a wonderful place for the birds to rest.

Any of these feathered friends could perch upon the lattice hidden beneath the vines, but the little brown sparrows seemed to like it best. They shared it with the wrens, the finches, and many other visitors, too.

The pergola seemed almost like an aviary, but its residents were free to come and go as they pleased, while the curious woman in the house gladly watched from her kitchen window.

All seemed well on that warm, summer day with the sun shining brightly and the flowers showing off their vibrant colors. But then came a loud shriek. A furry, gray animal jumped out of the shadows and surprised everyone: a cat!

Firefly A Love Story

Firefly, A Story about Love is a heartwarming book that shows kindness often involves small acts and sometimes personal sacrifice. Firefly shows how one can overcome their desires and do what is best for another living creature. The author was inspired to write the book after watching her young daughter, Katharine, putting pill bugs in bottles, their new home. Beary is the toy of her son, Ty, who named the bear and insisted on its spelling. Elise is named after her granddaughter.

The illustrations were drawn by Karen who wanted her debut book to also entertain its readers after remembering the fun her third grade class had after checking out books from the school library. Together, the story and its illustrations help readers, young or old, to value those around them and do what is best for them.

After all, isnโ€™t that what love is all about?

Bronze Award Military Writers Society of America

Joshua Tree Publishing proudly announces thatย The China Connection, published in January 2023, received the Bronze Award from the Military Writers Society of America on September 28, 2024. MWSA bestowed the Bronze Award in the Mystery, Thriller, Crime category. Authored by Timothy Trainer, The China Connection is set in 1998 Hong Kong.

The novel highlights Kellie Liang, the Chinese-American protagonist. She meets with local and Chinese business executives to expand business contacts. The executives have a different agenda and assume that their American visitor can enlighten them about trade and export tactics and strategies to increase their U.S. profits. Failing to satisfy her Chinese audience, one of the Chinese executives takes extreme measures to get more information. Finding herself in China without her travel documents, Kellie is at the mercy of others to find her and get her back safely to Hong Kong.

โ€œU.S.-China trade tensions affect individuals and companies around the world. The China Connection focuses on that tension. The novel is more a geoeconomic novel than a traditional geopolitical espionage tale. Mr. Trainer sees the current real-world U.S.-China global trade competition as an expansive area to explore in his writing,โ€ says publisher John Paul Owles. โ€œMr. Trainer continues exploring the issue of U.S.-China trade tensions and global competition in his next novel, The China Factor, that we expect to publish very soon.โ€

The China Connectionย is available onย Amazon. In 2017, Mr. Trainer received the Bronze Award from the Military Writers Society of America for a non-fiction book published by Joshua Tree Publishing. The Fortunate Son: Top Through the Eyes of Others focused on a group of men who served together in Vietnam in 1968-1969.

Dilobar Ortiqo

0

Born into a family of writers,ย Dilobar Ortiqovaย has a passion for literature from the early ages. Her previous works mostly included poems and short stories. Living in different countries, starting from Central Asia to Japan, Singapore, and USA, they ultimately shaped who she is now and how she perceives the world. Exposure to different culturesโ€™ languages, cuisines, and traditions revealed an unique and remarkable style of life for the author. Currently, Dilobar lives in America with her family.

When King Arawn of Rhodareen was betrayed by his youngest son, who claimed his right for the throne, the main ally of the king, the lord of mystical creatures named centenarians, declared war on all human beings. The war started between two kingdoms engulfed almost the entire world and could destroy the very life itself.

The main characters of the book are five people with different backgrounds and status who lived during the period of great recession and unrests, when people suffered because of wars, famine, religious and political crisis, witch-hunting, and many other troubles. In different circumstances, their paths converge, making them either friends or enemies. All in all, while fighting for their own survival, these characters are unaware that their actions may have significant influence on the outcome of the war.

The main story of the novel occurs in the years of 1644-1645. The major events in it happen on the territory of the Ottomansโ€™ Empire, in France, on Crete, and two fictional kingdoms, Rhodareen and Alassoud.
