Maida McQuinn-Sugrue

Maida’s memoir is a response to her grandchild’s request –

“Gramma, tell the story of how you came to America.”

Her story looks back at her early life:

growing up on a farm in Kerry, going to school,

and learning the fiddle from the famous Irish fiddle player,

Pádraig O’Keeffe.

Then she describes her journey to the United States

at the tender age of nineteen

and tells the story of her life there.

By turns funny, moving and uplifting,

it will be cherished by her whole family.

I dedicate this book to my grandchildren and their children. From my own experience I know it is important for families to know their ancestry. And since Im the first of my family to come to the United States to live, I hope that all who read my story will find it both pleasant and beneficial. You will find out where I came from and why I’ve been answering that question over and over down through the years.

And since it seemed important enough to be asked,

I think it is equally important to write it down.
